About TIA

Celestia is a blockchain focused purely on ordering and publishing transaction data, letting other blockchains plug into it for data availability instead of building that infrastructure themselves. Its token is TIA.
Celestia was founded by Mustafa Al-Bassam, a former member of the hacking group LulzSec who went on to earn a PhD in blockchain research at University College London, together with Ismail Khoffi and John Adler. It launched its mainnet in 2023 after years of academic research into a new blockchain architecture.
Celestia pioneered the modular blockchain approach, separating the job of ordering and publishing transaction data from the job of executing them. Other blockchains, called rollups, can plug into Celestia purely for data availability and consensus, while handling their own execution, letting new chains launch without bootstrapping their own validator security from scratch.
TIA pays for data availability space on Celestia and is staked by validators to secure the network. As the first major modular data availability layer, Celestia's adoption is tied to the growing number of rollups and application-specific chains choosing to build on top of it rather than handling their own consensus.
