About GRAM
The Open Network was originally designed by Telegram, the messaging company founded by Pavel Durov, which raised 1.7 billion dollars for the project before abandoning it in 2020 under pressure from US regulators. The open-source community, organized as the TON Foundation, revived the network, and Telegram later re-embraced it as its blockchain of choice.
TON is a proof-of-stake blockchain engineered for massive scale, using dynamic sharding that can split the network into many parallel chains as demand grows. Its defining advantage is deep integration with Telegram and its enormous user base: wallets live directly inside the messaging app, making crypto transfers as simple as sending a message.
Toncoin pays transaction fees, secures the network through staking, and powers an ecosystem of mini-apps and games inside Telegram that introduced millions of users to crypto through viral tap-to-earn titles. It is also used for payments, username auctions, and advertising settlement within the Telegram ecosystem.
