About Stellar

Stellar is a payment-focused network built to make cross-border money transfers fast and inexpensive, with a particular focus on connecting different currencies and financial institutions. Its native token is XLM.
Stellar was founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb, who had earlier created the Mt. Gox exchange and co-founded Ripple, together with lawyer Joyce Kim. The network is supported by the Stellar Development Foundation, a non-profit that has steered the project toward financial inclusion and payments infrastructure since launch.
Stellar reaches agreement through the Stellar Consensus Protocol, a federated system where nodes choose which other participants they trust, allowing transactions to settle in a few seconds for fractions of a cent. The network has built-in support for issuing assets, so banks and fintechs can put digital versions of currencies on-chain, and a native order book lets users convert between them directly.
XLM pays the network's minimal transaction fees, and every account holds a small XLM reserve as an anti-spam measure. It also acts as a bridge currency in cross-border payments, converting between currencies that lack a direct market. Stellar has become a significant rail for dollar stablecoins reaching users in emerging markets.
