Overview
About The Graph
The Graph indexes blockchain data so developers can easily query information from Ethereum and other networks instead of building their own indexing infrastructure. Its token, GRT, is used to pay for and secure this indexing service.
The Graph was founded by Yaniv Tal, Brandon Ramirez, and Jannis Pohlmann, launching its protocol in 2020 to solve a problem every blockchain developer faced: querying blockchain data directly is slow and impractical, so most applications needed custom backend infrastructure to index it.
The Graph lets developers publish open APIs, called subgraphs, that define how to index specific blockchain data, which indexers on the network then process and serve. Curators signal which subgraphs are valuable, delegators support indexers with staked capital, and indexers earn fees and rewards for reliably serving accurate data.
GRT is staked by indexers to participate in the network and earn query fees, used by curators to signal quality subgraphs, and delegated by token holders who want to earn rewards without running infrastructure themselves. The Graph has become foundational plumbing for a large share of DeFi and Web3 applications that need reliable data access.
