About THETA

Theta Network was founded by Mitch Liu and Jieyi Long, launching in 2019 with a focus on decentralizing video streaming infrastructure, letting users share unused bandwidth and storage to help deliver video content.
Theta lets edge nodes, ordinary users' computers and devices, relay video streams to nearby viewers, reducing the load on centralized content delivery networks and rewarding participants for the bandwidth they contribute. The network uses a separate token, TFUEL, to pay for these relay operations.
THETA is staked by validators and guardian nodes to secure the network and is used for governance, while TFUEL pays for actual network operations like video delivery and smart contract execution. Theta has partnered with major media and entertainment companies to explore decentralized streaming infrastructure.
