Jupiter is a leading token-swap aggregator on Solana, helping traders find the best prices across multiple decentralized exchanges in a single transaction. Its token, JUP, is used for governance and platform incentives.
Jupiter was founded by an anonymous developer known as Meow, launching in 2021 as a DEX aggregator on Solana that searches across the network's many exchanges to find users the best possible trade price, similar in concept to 1inch on Ethereum.
Jupiter routes trades across dozens of Solana liquidity sources, splitting orders when needed to minimize price impact, and has expanded well beyond simple swaps into perpetual futures trading, token launches, and a mobile-first trading app, becoming one of the most-used applications on Solana.
JUP governs the Jupiter DAO, letting holders vote on treasury decisions and protocol direction, and was distributed through one of Solana's largest airdrops in early 2024. Its usage tracks the overall volume of decentralized trading activity flowing through the Solana ecosystem.
