Maple Finance (SYRUP) is a decentralized lending platform connecting institutional borrowers with lenders, offering on-chain credit products backed by underwriting and due diligence.
Syrup is the token of Maple Finance, an institutional lending protocol founded in 2021 that pivoted toward permissionless, overcollateralized crypto lending after the 2022 credit crisis that hurt several undercollateralized lending platforms.
Maple's Syrup product lets users deposit stablecoins to earn yield generated by lending against overcollateralized crypto positions, professionally managed and structured to protect depositors, in contrast to the uncollateralized institutional lending that caused losses across DeFi in 2022.
SYRUP is earned by users who supply liquidity to Maple's lending pools and is used for governance over the protocol. It represents part of the broader effort within DeFi lending to rebuild trust through more conservative, collateral-backed lending models.
