About DYDX
dYdX is a decentralized exchange focused on derivatives and perpetual futures trading, offering an order-book style trading experience on its own dedicated blockchain. Its token, DYDX, is used for governance and staking.
dYdX was founded by Antonio Juliano, a former Coinbase engineer, launching in 2017 and becoming one of the largest decentralized derivatives exchanges. In 2023, the protocol migrated from Ethereum to its own dedicated blockchain, dYdX Chain, built with the Cosmos SDK.
dYdX Chain operates a fully on-chain, decentralized order book for perpetual futures trading, aiming to combine the performance of a centralized exchange with the transparency and self-custody of decentralized infrastructure, a significant technical undertaking that required building an entirely new chain.
DYDX secures the dYdX Chain through staking and is used for governance over the protocol, with trading fee revenue generated on the exchange distributed in part to stakers, tying the token's value to real trading activity on the platform.
