About HYPE
Hyperliquid is a blockchain built specifically for on-chain trading, offering an order-book style exchange experience directly on-chain. Its token, HYPE, is used for governance and network fees.
Hyperliquid was built by a small, self-funded team led by Jeff Yan, a former quantitative trader, notable for taking no venture capital funding. The project launched its perpetuals exchange in 2023 and released the HYPE token in late 2024 through one of the largest community airdrops in crypto history, distributing the majority of supply to actual users of the platform.
Hyperliquid is a purpose-built layer-1 blockchain whose core application is a fully on-chain order book exchange for perpetual futures and spot trading. Unlike most decentralized exchanges that use liquidity pools, it replicates the experience of a professional trading venue, with every order and cancellation recorded on-chain, while its custom consensus delivers the sub-second speeds traders expect from centralized platforms.
HYPE secures the Hyperliquid chain through staking, pays transaction fees, and serves as the governance token for the protocol. A large share of the platform's trading fee revenue is used to buy back HYPE from the market, directly linking the token's economics to exchange activity, which has made it one of the most closely watched revenue-generating tokens in crypto.
