About SKY
Sky (formerly part of the MakerDAO ecosystem) is a decentralized finance protocol offering savings and stablecoin products, with its SKY token used for governance and rewards within the platform.
Sky is the rebranded evolution of MakerDAO, the pioneering DeFi protocol founded by Rune Christensen that created the DAI stablecoin. The 2024 rebrand, part of Christensen's long-planned Endgame roadmap, introduced the SKY governance token as the successor to MKR, convertible at a fixed rate.
The Sky Protocol issues the USDS stablecoin against overcollateralized positions and a diversified reserve portfolio spanning crypto assets and tokenized real-world assets. Governance is conducted on-chain by SKY holders, who set risk parameters, manage the treasury, and direct sub-projects called Stars, with SPK-linked initiatives like Spark extending the ecosystem into lending.
SKY holders govern one of DeFi's oldest and most battle-tested protocols, voting on collateral types, interest rates, and treasury strategy. Stakers can earn rewards and participate in the protocol's value flows, tying the token to the growth of the USDS stablecoin and the broader Sky ecosystem.
