About Aptos
Aptos is a Layer 1 blockchain built with the Move programming language, designed to prioritize safety and high transaction throughput for modern decentralized applications. Its token, APT, is used for fees and staking.
Aptos was founded by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, former engineers on Meta's Diem blockchain project, who launched the network in 2022 after raising over 300 million dollars, one of the largest fundraises in crypto history for a layer-1. Like Sui, Aptos built on the Move programming language developed at Meta.
Aptos uses a proof-of-stake consensus called AptosBFT and is designed for parallel transaction execution, processing unrelated transactions simultaneously rather than one at a time. The Move language provides strong resource-safety guarantees that make certain classes of smart contract bugs, like duplicating digital assets, structurally impossible.
APT pays gas fees, is staked to secure the network, and governs protocol upgrades through on-chain voting. Aptos has focused on partnerships with traditional finance and consumer brands, positioning its speed and safety-focused design as a bridge for mainstream applications entering Web3.
